| Metro Race Week and Chester Report
CIAO WINS AT CHESTER
What a great week we had. 2 days of heavy rain interspersed with two days of sunshine, and wind most of the time made for excellent conditions for the 18 Premier Class Association members to race as a class. We welcomed boats from the United States, and other regions of the Maritimes to this regatta, and arranged "one event only" PHRF ratings for two participants. Congratulations to Ciao for an outstanding performance, and to all other participants, who ensured that racing was off a high quality. While there were one or two incidents that some might have called "bad behavior" there was only one protest during the week, and the quality of the racing was of a generally high level.
Thanks to the excellent work of Andreas Josenhans and his team of professionals and experienced racers, the competiton (18 PCA Members) at Chester was the best in years. Recognising this, our President set the following to Andreas.
Andreas:
On behalf of the PCA executive and Class members I would like to thank you, your team, and Chester Race Week for running a superb regatta in a mix of trying conditions. We all appreciated the professionalism involved, and the manner in which the sailors were all kept "in the loop" as per your ideas and movements. A welcome relief from previous years.
cin starting on day 1 was not appreciated by all, however, it was the right thing to do, and solved the problem of the tardy sailor.
Again, thank you for a job well done.
Ed Backman President Premier Class Association

CIAO WINS HALIFAX METRO RACE WEEK 2008
Dartmouth Yacht Clubfour day regatta in Bedford Basin. Great racing, great social activities, and a remarkable range of weather conditions gave us all an remember. We raced round the buoys on the first day, and would have done so again on the last if the weather hadn't intervened. The middle days both had us doing two windward-leeward races twice around. Winds varied from very light to perhaps twelve knots on the first two days, with fog and rain never far away on the last three days.
Day four racing was postponed for some time as a particularly vicious thunderstorm approached then overran the course. We experienced more than half an hour of heavy rain limiting visibility to less than 50 yards, winds of 35 knots or more, and lightning strikes in our immediate vicinity. As quickly as it had begun it moved on and left us in sunshine and no wind. After waiting an hour, the Race Committee abandoned all hopes of racing and we returned to the DYC.
