The idea of a race to Saint Pierre has been talked about for some years. On 19 December 2001The Commodore of Yacht Club de Saint Pierre and the President of the Premier Class Association met to discuss the organization and conduct of a July 2002 race to Saint Pierre et Miquelon from Halifax. A concept for the event was established and agreed to by the YCSP and PCA executives. A logo was designed and donated by AA Design studios. The RNSYS was invited to participate in the organization of the first and subsequent events. The NSYA gave its support to the event on 26 January 2002
Twenty yachts finished the race in 2002, thirty in each of 2004 and 2006, and twenty in 2008

Karine Claireaux Maire de Saint-Pierre vous invite à nouveau - 2010 n'est pas loin!
With great pleasure once again the City of Saint-Pierre has welcomed the twenty yachts from three countries who participated in the fourth edition of Route Halifax Saint-Pierre held in July 2008.
The entire archipelago's inhabitants and the City of Saint Pierre Team enjoyed this major nautical event. Every yacht’s crew, their friends and families were welcomed in the finest French tradition and, we understand, enjoyed what they referred to as our exceptional hospitality. which included a full range of festive and gastronomic delight and a touch of France they will always remember!
ALORS PRÊTS À RELEVER LE DÉFI POUR 2010 ?

CIAO WINS 2008 SAINT PIERRE IRC CLASS BY ONE MINUTE.
After 50 hours of it came down to exactly 1 minute between Ciao! and Dawn Treader, with Ciao! taking the lead in IRC. How exciting is that? Interestingly, Dawn Treader leads Ciao by one place in PHRF.

First across the line at Saint Pierre - "MANTRA"
Shortly after noon on 15 July the N based yacht Mantra, a Little Harbour 51, was first of 20 competitors to finish. A foggy but cheerful day, and a particularly fast passage made this crew very happy!
She just held her lead by less than 20 Minutes (corrected) as Sea Smoke, with a crew of four people threatened her all the way from Halifax!
Ocean racing should be like this!

Second to finish Mike Evans' "Sea Smoke"
Sea Smoke was second in her class, and won the Armed Forces Trophy for best performance by a yacht crewed by a crew of present or former Armed Forces personnel

NAVY ACCOMPANIED 2008 ROUTE HALIFAX SAINT PIERRE.
Naval Headquarters in Halifax assigned HMCS Kingston, one of its Kingston Class Coastal Defence Vessels to accompany the race to Saint Pierre. She was also to make a port visit in Saint Pierre, which unfortunateky did not happen due to an engineering defect requiring prompt attention. She returned to Halifax after ensuring all yachts made it to the SPM archipelago.Race participants much appreciated her presence and the assurance that meant in the event of difficult conditions or emergencies.
The Navy has generously provided one or two ships to accompany each of our races since the event was first run in 2002. Racers have always appreciated the presence and support of the Navy as they cross the challenging waters off the east coast.
New trophies awarded in 2008.
In addition to the Sunnybrook Yachts Trophy (shown below) which is awarded to the Premier Class Association member yacht with the best corrected time, three additional trophies will be competed for. They are :
The Founders trophy presented by the race founders, Hal Davies and Philippe Paturel. It will be awarded to the team of two yachts racing as individuals entries but formed into a team of two representing nations, yacht clubs, or other recognised yachting associations ;
The George W. Acland Trophy winner will be selected by his or her peers to recognise outstanding effort, seamanship skills, or Corinthian actions demonstrated by a crew member or associated person. (Skippers not eligible)
The Armed Forces Trophy will be awarded for the best performsance by a yacht with a minimum of 50% Academy or Service crew of serving or former members. .
