CHESTER RACE WEEK 2010 IS OVER - NOW IT'S ON TO BBYC LABOUR DAY REGATTA POW ..........
,________________________________________________________

BBYC Regatta now a one day affair Mondy, due to Storm Earl.

A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF PCA, ED BACKMAN

Chester 2010.

Great weather, great racing, three classes, great entertainment, food, prizes, the Hopping P's................. something for everyone.  Chester Race Week 2010 was one of the best Race Weeks in memory for most sailors.  Chester Yacht Club served up great conditions on separate courses for the PCA Fleet.  In addition to the Up/Down format for the handicap fleet, there was a level fleet for the PHRF 72 raters, and a distance format for the larger boats.

We saw great participation on all three courses and lots of different winners.  PCA points will be awarded to all participants in all three classes.

This should get the race for Season Champion a little more interesting.

On a very serious issue, prior to and during Chester, some sailors were spotted taking doors and stoves off of their boats. Removal of equipment from boats for racing is illegal.  For the POW and PCA Fall Series, the SI's will be very specific.  All equipment which was standard on your boat when it was built must remain on board while racing, unless you have noted such on your Handicap Form.  THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS CUSHIONS, which for various reasons need not remain aboard.  If you are removing your stove, floorboards, doors, drawers etc., expect to be inspected by the RC or protested.

If you want to permanently remove these items, and have your boat re-rated stating that, such removal would be legal, as long as the new application is approved by NSYA.

Enough said........................On to better topics!

The POW/Wenonah Cup Weekend at the Squadron is next up on the PCA calendar, September 11 and 12.  PCA Yachts with handicaps of 87 PHRF or less will race for these two prestigious trophies.

For those who want some practice prior to, BBYC are offering a separate start for PCA boats on their Labour Day Week End.  Please check with their website for details, and let Peter Robson (
robsonpj@eastlink.ca) know if you plan to attend BBYC or not.  If you ARE attending, the Race Committee would like us to have some input on the course type – Windward/Leeward, bouys, 2 races per day, or 3, or only one but longer.  Please include that in your reply to Peter.

PCA racing doesn't end with the POW.  There is still the Convoy Cup Ocean Race Sept 17, 18 as well as the PCA Fall Series on Saturday September the 25th and Saturday October the 2nd.

The PCA Fall Series will be held at the Squadron and Elizabeth Shaw is happy to give us some W/L's with 2 mile legs with the option for a shorter distance race as well. Get your crew organized as it is Saturdays only. Should be lots of fun with some breeze.

Starting the long week end there are races every Saturday until the snow flies, get out on the water and enjoy it while it lasts. There's a long winter coming!
